similar in style to picture 21022 so probably Miles bodywork but could be HCB. This appliance is on CCMV site but poorly labelled.

It does seem to have all the design hallmarks of all the other Alfred Miles products around 1955. Four section windscreen, low mounted hose reels in midships open boxes, one bell it a recessed housing in the center above the windscreen, flanked by orange flashers normally used to update older cars with semaphore indicators, painted roller shutters, open rear, curved side panels leading into the rear roof, that chrome trim running along the top of the windows and lockers, its bi-fold cab doors and - of course - no front doors! (It seems the firm just hated them)....

It still has the miles manufacturers plates on the rear seat base.

David - I guess that eliminates the need for any detective work!

Still plenty more delving to do to confirm it's history, Vauxhall heritage have no record of it at present and Odiham have still come back to me.

PBM was the 176th Miles fire engine built and the prototype 120" wheelbase water tender. The unarguable unique feature of Miles products is the triangular orange blinker lights. This picture has been re-fitted with different blinker lights.
