The fire officer standing on the right with his hand on the fender of A2KJ is my great grandfather and former station officer at the George Street Fire Station: Edward Luckett Hanks (Sergeant E.L.Hanks, served with 2nd Bat. Royal Berkshire Regiment during WW1)

Both these Merryweather appliances were new in 1921, that on the right carries a trade plate.

The early twenties generally saw most of the old horse drawn fire equipment being replaced by motor chassis in England, and it looks like Oxford was pretty typical of that time window...

But some small villages still had horse drawn pumps as the country entered WWII in 1939!
