Another ex-Middlesex unit?

You have to ask yourself why not just put the two tones where the bell is, compressor can go wherever..

When I was at Holloway between 64-70 we had an F106 210 FLM and it was originaly fitted with 2 bells one hand and one electric in the cut out above the windscreen.Because the hand bell was not above where the OiC sat the strap from the bell was connected too a metal rod about 2 to 3ft in length which ran rearwards to another strap fixed to the roof.the strap to ring the bell was fitted in the middle of this rod and this is what was used to ring the bell This unwealdly contraption only allowed the bell to be rung in a series of bongs not the melodious peals that was common place before when the bell was situated above the OiCs right shoulder and sounded awful.When the electric bell was replaced with 2 tones the horns where placed in the recess where the electric bell had sat.I assume that at a later date to overcome the problems with the hand bell it was moved to the original position where hand bells were fitted that is on the roof.

Talking of electric bells, can anyone help in sourcing a Gillett & Johnston electric bell as fitted to some early 1960's Merryweather (and probably other FFVMs) appliances? ... many thanks.

Rob Johnson, No the F106's allocated to the ex Kent Fire Stations were brand new in 1966

Thanks Christopher. The F106 story at LFB is quite interesting, with all the different versions - as well as the brigade expansion - all happening in a rather short time frame. Until recently I always thought the rear mounted pump with side controls first showed up on the F108, not realizing the first ones were F106s…..
