For us non fire fighters can you let me know what Purple K is, I suspect it may be a dry powder product.

Purple K is potassium bicarbonate powder. A very effective class "B" extinguishing agent. It is called "purple K" because its color is purple. The FAA requires its use at all US airports.

and its called "K" because the chemical symbol for Potassium is "K". The chemical compound abbreviation is KCl. Incidentally, KCl is also one of the substances used during lethal injections of prisoners condemned to die; The injection of KCl stops the heart function.
