Pumper 5 of Thunder Bay
Thunder Bay, Ontario Pumper 5 is this 2010 Carl Thibault International 4400 truck with 1050 GPM pump, 1000 gallon water tank and 30 gallon foam cell. The pump panel is transverse mounted in the enclosed cabin for operation on days like today, where the weather in Thunder Bay sits around -20C before adding in the wind chill factor!

Terry - how do your guys cope with tanks and piping freezing up when it is this cold? Do you have electric heaters, antifreeze additives, or both?

This is your standard 3/4 angle view of a fire apparatus, these sunlit photos can be achieved in what is called "sweet light" about 2-3 hours after sunrise or before sunset.Mid-day photos in summer result in long shadows on the side being photographed.

Thanks, Steve. As for the problem regarding freezing, some apparatus have heater pans below the pump, some the circulate tank water through the pump while stationary, and I think some even utilize the engine exhaust gas to extract heat.
