Landrover FC - Fire Appliance

I don't think that Carmichael built many of these FC (Forward Control) appliances.
This example was seen at the Gaydon Heritage Centre, Warwickshire, England in June 2001.
I believe may have been used by one of the factory fire brigades at a BMC or British Leyland site.
Maybe a viewer can shed some light on the history of this somewhat rare Landrover.

I am sure that only 8 of this type were built, 5 for Gwynedd, 2 of these were built from vehicles already in service on Series 2A chassis, the other 3 were built from scratch on Series 3 chassis, 4 of the 5 are known to be still around in one form or another. As for the other 3 they seem to have vanished, unless someone knows where they went or are.

Pity more were not built. They certainly look like a professional job.

With the help of Mr Stephen Laing (the curator of the Heritage Motor Collection (HMC), Gaydon) I have found out the HMC sold the appliance at auction in 2003 to an unknown bidder.
Mr Laing informed me that it was used at the Unipart Plant in Oxford, England and carried the registration YDU 600S.

From what I remember it was a while ago they were not popular because of the ride ie they rolled badly on curves.

In service with Gwynedd, they were called Moon Buggy's by the Firemen who rode them, a dual purpose Rescue Pump, the above appliance is 1 of 3 that were built for customers outside a County Brigade, Leyland had the 1 above YDU600S, Jaguar cars had 1 UOK119S and 1 was at White Waltham Airfield PNO804V. I own 1 of the Gwynedd ones PEY239S. I would love to know what happned to the Jaguar Cars 1.

Neal, as you mention this problem, the body does look as if it is quite a bit wider than the track between the wheels, This is a serious "no, no" on a 4X4 vehicle, which already has a relatively high center of gravity.

Other contributors have mentioned regular Land Rovers and Range Rovers tendency to roll, especially when laden with a full water tank, and it seems this wide body may have very easily made things worse.
