This appliance will have to move home soon as Gloucestershire undertake a radical station rebuilding programme. As well as rebuilding Cheltenham and creating a new station in the Uckington area of Cheltenham, they intend to rebuild Gloucester as a one-pump retained station, and build two new wholetime stations: one in north Gloucester and the other in south Gloucester, housing a pump each and the specials.

Gloucester is getting more spread out and it doesn’t surprise me that the one central station is causing problems with the time it takes two pumps to get to places like Quedgeley which is a large residential area to the south. I was unaware about the one pump retained station in the centre, that might be interesting! I will miss the sight and sound of those trucks running over Metz way and through the junction onto Barton Way.
