Rosenbauer/Metz 100 Foot Aerial (New York USA)
Prior to Rosenbauer's acquisition of Metz, the Karlsruhe based appliance manufacturer had begun to market its aerial devices here in the United States. The introduction of the lightweight 33meter ladder sent US fire administrators scratching their heads -- and US manufacturers back to the drawing boards.
In a few short years ten Metz aerials were delivered to US departments, like this one, Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department, just north of New York City. A 135ft. version is on the run with the San Francisco Fire Department's ARFF station at the International Airport.
Rosenbauer acquired Metz, then turned its sites to the USA where they acquired Central States, General Safety as well as a US aerial manufacturer. Today Rosenbauer America offers a wide range of appliances including the Metz aerial, which is now marketed under the brand "The Raptor."

And I went to WYOMIN, MN last year to see the factory, but don't the name of RAPTOR.

Thanks for the very informative description and background to the above machine. I find the photographs so much more interesting when there is a 'story' behind them. Keep sending your pictures of American machines in and try and educate us in Europe about your appliances. Best wishes, Barry.
