Multiple appliances attended an incident in a building on Michigan Avenue, Chicago, 23rd October 2013 including this one, Engine Co 18 and a High Rise Unit behind.
CFD has 99 Engine Companies. The vast majority of their engines are Luverne 1500 gpm pumpers, like this one. They are crewed bt five firefighters.
The Hi-Rise units carry extra equipment and a two-person crew, and respond to hi-rise incidents with numerous other CFD units. These normally include three engines, two ladders, a snorkel, a rescue, a deputy chief, a batallion chief, a safety officer and at least one ambulance. The number of members responding is around forty, and in addition CPD always respond with several officers.
These two units are parked on the wrong side of the median on Michigan Abenue in front of the Tribune Tower, which is a 460 foot (141 meter) 30 floor office building. This area is actually called the "Magnificent Mile", partly because it is a mile-long stretch of hi-rise buildings, many of them close to 70 floors.
