Thanks for sharing these Chicago appliances Jonathan. I was in Chicago in November last year and managed to get some photos of their vehicles whilst there. I really like the black over red colour scheme, better I think than the white over red.

Black over red started in the 1930s when battalion chief's cars were painted red but came with black fabric roofs. When CFD started buying enclosed apparatus a bit later they were painted red with black roofs to match.
