This is either a Bedford TL 1630 (16260 kg GVW) or TL 1470 (14730 kg GVW) - they have a similar appearance and general mechanical specificatiion but the brakes are different: TL 1630 - air. TL 1470 air/hydraulic. The TL range had been launched the previous year but never achieved the success of the previous TK/KM models. The tilt cab was not really advantageous in a fire appliance. The TK remained in production for some years in fire appliance specification. This TL has the normal additions (horns, lights) in its role as an emergency vehicle but only 150 hp and a 5 speed gearbox which would be very modest today.
