US fire truck builders will paint a product in any color or combination of colors specified by the customer, and add any kind of stripes, lettering or decals which may be desired.

Different fire departments all have their own color schemes, although white over red is the most popular. But in volunteer departments, different fire companies quite often also have their own preferences.

So you can easily find a solid red truck next to yellow one, sharing the apparatus hall with a solid white unit with a blue stripe, another black over red, a fifth in green with a white roof and a silver rig with dark red striping!

Most of these color schemes go back decades, and many were first used a century or more ago.
