Dennis f12 ex Cheshire Fire Brigade RMB634

This ex-Cheshire FB Dennis f12 pump escape is now housed safely in Bury Transport Museum, Lancashire.

I took this photo about a month ago (June 2013) but couldn't get the registration plate in the photo no matter what angle due to the display board in front.

A question for our knowledgeable Dennis history experts. What was the reason for the hinged windscreen on these 1950s vintage F12s?

Its probably the same reason 1940/50's Half cab Buses have hinged front windscreens ventilation! With the engine along side the driver it gets Very hot in there. However after you open them once they never seal properly and the rain seeps in!

In case of windscreen wiper failure??

Ventilation Rob.....It can get very warm in the cab of these machines...the engine is in the cab with you with a metal cover....opening the front screen is as good if not better than air con....except that you need to be aware of the wasps in the summer....had ours on the F7 and F8 open quite a bit this summer

It looks as if the front door vent windows on these Dennises were fixed. On some contemporary trucks these were hinged, and could be turned around almost 180 degrees if necessary to create a nice draught. Also quite effective, with possibly a slightly lower risk of inviting unwanted guests in!
