The front mounted pump is a clue that this would have carried a portable pump in the rear central locker. This was (and still remains) a popular specification in small-town fire departments which may need to access open water in rural areas without hydrants. The portable pump is also rated at 800 LPM. Note the long nine-person crew cab, typical of this truck, which was primarily intended for volunteer fire services with plenty of responders!
Rob! In Germany they has 3 sizes of the cab. Trupp=3 man crew. Staffel= 6 man crew. Grupp= 9 man crew. Even the Berufsfeuerwehren (fulltime) has the 3 different sizes of the cabs.A another thing, is that the crew is doing the same thing every watch! Iow, the driver drives from the fist day at the firestation, to the last day in the work as firefighter! Anders F. Sweden from the first day to his/hers last day in the work as firefighter.
The nine person cab is not being used by many paid city fire services any longer, as most have changed over to the HLF or LHF (rescue pumper) - with a six man cab.
This LF16TS was originally a specification which was intened mainly for volunteer fire companies, and volunteers are still buying new units with the nine person cab. I use the word "person" because increasing numbers of German volunteers nowadays are females.
