American La France units are a very rare sight in Chicago. In three years I have only seen one example. The fleet has around 175 custom engines, ladders and rescues, including reserves.

Can't see one negotiating North Yorkshires roads and lanes though, mind you it would turn a few heads!

John - I remember taking my wife - who was born and raised in Chicago - back to the North Yorkshire moors many years ago. She was quite amazed that motor vehicles including buses could actually negotiate the local roads.

Then I showed her Whitby's Bedford TK 4X4 PWT, and she commented that it was a "cute little truck". As you say, different worlds!

If you think this Alfie is big, just imagine it in a side street in Tokyo - it would be just the right size, as long as no-one wanted to open the doors.

Last 3 Weeks ago, Squad 1 was using this reserve rig. Squad 1A was in service and Squad 1 was not
