nice classic style of building, almost looks like a hotel!!! ( apart from the big red doors of course! ). Only thing is, I am assuming that the accommodation above would have been flats for the firefighters?

This Grade II listed Queen Anne Style building dates from 1903/4, when it was built at a cost of 11, 000 pounds including the land it occupied!

It has of course been significantly modified over the years, although the basic structure and appearance has remained almost unchanged.

My 1913 LCC Fire Brigade Notebook tells us that this station housed twelve firemen in flats above the appliance room. They were all essentially on call at all times with only a few four hour periods off duty each week.

It had an escape van, a steam pump, a manual hose cart and accommodations for four horses, which was pretty typical of all of the LCC fire stations in those days. The third set of doors access the drill yard behind the building.
