Anyone know what the function may be for the item on the roof at the rear?

Hi Rob, Don't know the exact word for it in English. But these look like shovels to put out fires in the forest. But not to sure about it.

These could be either shovels or "fire beaters". We used to have "fire beaters" in the UK for heath fires. These were canvas squares attached to long handles, and were literally used to beat down the flames. The process was very exhausting and more than a little dangerous, but these look as if they might serve the same purpose.

They were mostly used in areas where it just was not possible to get water, and the shovels were of course used to clear brush to create fire breaks.

With advances in materials, may be its possible to have a tool which performs both functions, depending on how it is used?
