Comparing this Leyland to the 1949 Dennis F7 on this site illustrates just how much progress was made in British fire engine design and construction in a mere ten years, The open-cab Braidwood-bodied 1939 Leyland is arguably five to ten years behind many of its European contemporaries, but the 1949 F7 is just as far ahead - and it looks amazing, too.
