Looks to be like an ex Cumbria appliance, probably replacing the old series 2 Land Rover which was there, when I was at college in the mid 1990's

was the Alacn plant not at lynemouth ashington, the Ford went to Perkins engines in Peterborgh I think its now preserved.

Yes its sister went to Perkins Engines Peterborough, now preserved( been totally resprayed nice finish)the Alcan one is EX Bootle Cumbria, we had the choice and chose the Patterdale one.

Very rare catch! Although a few A series were bought by factory brigades and used as specials by municipalities like York’s ET, only a couple of pumpers were bought by municipal brigades like this example.In general, the A series was not a very successful design. It was too heavy, rather underpowered and had a comparatively limited length body space compared to Mercedes and others.

Were the Cumbria ones petrol or diesel? The 6cyl diesel seems to have been unreliable and killed sales of the A Series.
