I am pleased to say I am the new owner and I am working on restoring it back to a decent condition. Water sadly has got into the cab and cabinets, but I have just met a very kind chippie who has offered to work for free and restore the cab.

It drove well from its previous home near Coventry (prior to that it was in Southampton) although I could still taste the petrol for a day or two afterwards ;-). But great considering it's age, no power steering etc.

Once restored I hope to use it to raise funds for local charities etc. 'Angus' has already made his first funds for charity last weekend so a good start.

I'm glad to hear this appliance has been saved, I'm sure I will drove this pump when in service with North Yorkshire when they were used as spare pumps. Good luck with the restoration Ian could you send some photos of the work in progress of the restoration please. I look forward to seeing the vehicle when complete. Which part of the UK is the vehicle based.

Indeed an ex North Riding of Yorkshire water tender. This was built by HCB-Angus in 1967 on a Bedford J4 chassis.

Paul - Did these converted J4s have some advantages over the TK?

I am a bit puzzled why brigades continued to buy so many of these long after the excellent TK chassis was available and already configured so that it could so easily be adapted as a fire appliance...

It could not have only been because of the quad headlights!

Ian, I have it based at Northallerton 1967 until 1969. Then to Thirsk then to Snainton in 1972.
