The infamous x-FDNY E65; the only ALF Century engine painted slime.

I'll bet its a bit like the 'Black Smiths' hammer having undergone several rebuilds in its life ....still an historic Rig glad its survived- well caught.

Well it certainly looks different from its FDNY days, and what a great yellow/white colour scheme.
These were a real typical American rig from the 1970/80's with many small town fire departments still using them even today.
A really nice picture Warren so many thanks for sharing it with us FDNY buffs.Maybe someone somewhere out there can share with us also a picture of this ALF whilst it was actually with the original FDNY Engine Co 65.

I have a factory sales brochure with the subject rig on it which was taken prior to delivery at the FDNY. If interested in it, please contact me at my e-mail address. Thank You!

Why was she infamous?

The only American La France engine ever supplied to FDNY in yellow. The other yellow engines were all Macks.

Thanks Rob. Still a beautiful pumper though.

Those with access to old Firehouse magazines will find the January 1982 issue interesting for the article: "Is the Big Apple going Yellow". The various opinions of the FDNY officials are great in that no one seemed to agree about the need for change. This rig also managed to be in 2 fender-benders in the same day, soon after going to E65.
There was also a full-page ad of this engine in the Sept. 1981 issue.
