West Sussex RT KBP 550P
Following on from the recent excellent information provided by Bob, Martin and Pete on West Sussex RTs, here is a picture of Worthings Range Rover RT in it's final livery and condition having lost its stem light by "accident" and had it's strobe blue beacon at the rear replaced by a conventional rotating beacon. This appliance never carried a Station name plate unlike TPO 513/514M. Can one of the more knowledgable gentleman confirm when Haywards Heath lost it's Range Rover RT to Horsham - I believe it was 1976, but confirmation would be welcome.
The above picture was taken in 1993, shortly before it was replaced by Mercedes K659 MBP. Of the 3 West Sussex Range Rovers, TPO 513M survived the longest,finally being withdrawn from Horsham in 1997. Worthy of mention,before KBP 550P arrived at Worthing ex EastSussex Land Rover FPM 661C served as a RT from 1974 - 1976 painted in Coventry Yellow Livery,can just about remember that one.

Hi Jon, want to find out a bit more about FPM 661C as my friend now owns this Land Rover but we want to find out a bit more about its history if you know anything?

Land Rover FPM 661C is a little before my time although I have vague memories of it on the run at Worthing before the Range Rover arrived in 1976, so the below is all 2nd hand info, but I believe correct. FPM 66C was new to East Sussex and based at Battle. In 1973 it was swapped with the Land Rover at Haywards Heath, which East Sussex wanted to keep, knowing that Haywards Heath would move to West Sussex in the 1974 county boundary changes, thus becoming a West Sussex appliance in 1974. It was taken to workshops at Chichester and converted into a rescue tender, and painted coventry Yellow (which West Sussex had stopped using for pumps from Dennis D WPO 13K in 1973, but still used for Special & Support appliances until 1975). It was officially a spare RT, but spent a lot of time at Worthing after the first 2 Range Rover RTs went to Haywards Heath & Crawley in 1974, before MBP 550P arrived at Worthing in 1976 displacing it (the other 2 Range Rovers moving to Horsham & Chichester). Not sure exactly when it was withdrawn, one source says it was kept until 1982 as a reserve RT, although I've no memory or pictures of it after 1974. I hadn't realised it sill existed, so that is great news. Bob Carver, Pete Matten or Martyn West probably have more info.

Range Rover
I think the stem light came into contact with the low bridge at Shoreham Airport.
