After being withdrawn from service this appliance became a driver training vehicle for use on a skid pan in a joint venture between Lothian and Borders, Central Scotland and Fife FRS`s. It has now been returned to L&B and is currently sitting at their workshops at Newbridge.

Did this appliance once carry a boat on top of the rear body ? I think I have a very poor photo somewhere I took some years ago and seem to think it had a boat.

Paul, yes this appliance did carry a boat when it was on the run as the Heavy Rescue Unit.

Thank you David.

You can still see the gantry for the boat on the rear of the appliance. Newcraighall were initially a water rescue station - hence having the boat, but they are now line rescue and USAR so water rescue has been moved to Marrionville, with further water rescue at Bathgate and Galashiels and flood response teams at Livingston, Dalkieth and Hawick to assist the water rescue teams.
