Seen at the Museum of Fire, Edinburgh in October 2012, SY 5885 is a Dennis Ace 25 cwt pump with a New World body, Chassis No 7806...new to Penicuik Fire Brigade in 1936, served with the National Fire Service (NFS) during the war years, then with South Eastern FS (Scotland) until the early 1960s

This appliance, with two drivers, was loaned to the West Sussex Fire Brigade in 1975. When they did a charity run from John O'Groats to Lands End for the Fire Services Benevolent Fund. My father was the mechanic for the run and worked for the West Sussex Fire Service as one of their mobile engineers.
