New Zealand Mack crashtender Nelson airportThis unusual appliance is registered as a 1979 Mack RM4874 but was reported to have been rebuilt from JE 5700 which was a Hoyle Arrestor - a locally designed type of crash tender. It was built as a training/relief appliance by Mills Tui as part of the contract to supply a number of new vehicles for Christchurch International Airport. When it was disposed of it was purchased by Nelson Airport where it is now in service. Photo taken 2012 during an airport open day.
