Like many volunteer fire companies, Blain bought this C series without a crew cab, as their SOP was to have most of the volunteers drive directly to incidents rater than gather at the fire house and ride on the pumper.

But the C series lent itself to body builders adding a canopy crew cab to the standard tilting factory cab, and it was also very popular with numerous paid departments, including big city outfits such as Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and DC.
