Dennis Orbitor Chassis 100-F37 with coachwork by Carmichael & Sons. Ex Durban Fire Dept retired from service and donated to Durban Historic Transport Society. Sadly when they lost their premises it was moved to an outside storage area where vandals removed what they could for scrap value. Taken on 14 August 2012 vehicle is due to be cut up for scrap.

Extremely interesting ! Said by Dennis to be 110-F37 (rather than 100-F37) this one was obviously locally bodied, as Dennis supplied it as a chassis only, via Ash Bros.

Thats very sad Keith......the Orbitor was not the most successful of aerials and I don't suppose there are many (if any) still 'alive'

See also picture 10577 for another example of the rare Orbitor HP - distinctive by the unusual jacking system

Hi Ian, I will confirm chassis number as this vehicle is still parked at our training centre.
It has a Carmichael & Sons plate indicating their address as The Butts Worcester on the rear.

Dennis supplied this machine to Carmichael who where the Agents for the Orbitor, suggest they bodied it,
believe this machine actually visted a UK Local Authority F.B. for them to view, before departure to Durban.

Yes, Carmichael were indeed the agents for Orbitor, and for some unbeknown reason no mention is made of them on the Dennis information. I don't however doubt that they built it, and that my earlier info about its being locally bodied is incorrect.

1st of all chassis 110F37 was a TL not a HP, I therefore suggest the chassis number is correct

HiWayne, We seem to have a difference here. Firstly, the first one was 101F37 CDU 293B - Coventry), 102F37 was a 125' Metz with Columbo, 103F37 was ABU 756B - Oldham, 104F37 was CVP 923C - Birmingham Breakdown Lorry, 105F37 was BEO 864C - Barrow-in-Furness, 106F37 was a Magirus for East Pakistan, 107F37 was a Metz for Cairns, 108F37 was a Port Elizabeth TL, 109F37 was GDW 156D for Newport, 110F37 was for Durban so it has to be this one, 111F37 was a Metz for East London, South Adrica, amd 112F37 was a 125' Metz for Brisbane. These were the only F37 jobs built.
Ten were TLs, one was a BdL, and one - the Dyrban one - was an HP

Further to the list of F37 appliances I've just circulated, I should just add that the 12 were numbered 101F37 to 112F37. There was no 100F37.

Sorry to correct you Ian, but the information on Dennis File does state to Carmichael, chassis only, it appeared at the CACFO Conference/Fire Show with the Orbitor Booms fitted, but no bodywork, later seen in UK at Local Authority F.B.with bodywork complete.

This F37 was definitely bodied by Carmichael before export because on Flickr there is an image in the Dennis lorries pool, where it states it was used in Carmichael publicity shots. ref /photos/96977464@N02/28681507018/in/photolist-KGudMG
