1935 American LaFrance

This engine was originally purchased by the Ensign-Bickford Company for their fire brigade in 1935. Because of manpower shortages during the war, Ensign-Bickford notified the Town of Simsbury that they could no longer provide fire protection services to the town, hence the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company was formed and on July 2, 1944, Engine 1 was turned over to the Fire Company. Engine 1 answered alarms until 1975 when at that time it was retired. In 1991, members of the Fire Company restored the apparatus and it is now used for parades and ceremonies.

Location: Simsbury, Connecticut, USA. Photo taken October 2004.

I am in the process of purchasing a 1934 American La France sight unseen. Did hear it has been kept inside, so hopefully it will be infairly good shape. I hope it will look half as good as this one. I will probably be looking for parts, so if anyone has any information I would be very happy to receive it.

Great to see her preserved - kudos to the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company.
