That's a good picture of GXA 520. Its being restored at the moment. Hopefully it will be back on the road later this year. We are having a meeting to discuss whether we are going to paint it red or grey. We would like it to go back to grey but don't have any records of it during the war.

From the "porthole" in the side it does look to be a hosereel tender rather than a straight ATV. The fact the porthole is round suggests it was an early conversion maybe in NFS days. At least one conversion was done for the NFS but that was painted red with the NFS roundal on the side.
If you want to paint it grey all the add ons should be removed to be authentic ie the blue and the amber lights also the spotlight over the cab, if it no longer carries a bell it should have one. If it is a HrT the tank etc should come out. The ladder gantry is not origional but could be a wartime adaptation. All this of course up to you but this could be the last machine with Burton upon Trent Crest.
