Now becoming more common, these powered gantries for ladders and suction hoses were originally developed in the Netherlands where rapid access to suction hoses for open water operations were a priority.
They are to be found in many countries, and have redundant mechanisms, being powered by hydraulic, electrical and/or compressed air from the truck's braking system.
Similar lift systems have also been in use in North America for many years, to operate side mounted racking for ground ladders, suction hoses and demountable collapsible water dams.
