What was the purpose of the Helicopter landing? Grampian used to have a pump on standby when a Helicopter landed at the Hospital in Aberdeen but it doesn't happen any more.....

On standby at Hull whilst a helicopter, either Air Ambulance or RAF Rescue land and take off with a casualty for the Hospital. We do the same at York.

With Grampian, the reason they dont stand-by at ARI anymore is apparently they said with the fire station only a mile or so away they didnt need to be there for landings. I do know that the RAF werent happy with this but nothing has changed. I dont know when the stand-by stopped. Any more info would be appreciated.

Only a quarter mile away but might be all over by time appliance arrives....

It depends on the size of the kite... least it does for us. If the air ambulance lands at James Cook there is no drama. If the RAF search and rescue come in - you get 2 pumps, a cop car and mountain rescue in for comms.

Barry I think it stopped about 10 years ago give or take a couple.

Peter - agreed! How's the restoration coming on? Have you had the chance to drive to Elgin?
