Fire Engines Photos

I've noticed that for most - if not all - of its life as a preserved appliance, FKG 50 has had its horns, beacons, and bells "amputated".

this is probably more correctly a Maudslay/ Merryweather. It is ex Cardiff fire service. see also picture 33411 here where it is also described as an AEC. picture 33396 looks like an AEC but is also a Maudslay from Cardiff FS.

I drove this old girl to many a shout from the old Westgate Street Fire Station in Cardiff till we moved to Adam Street in 1973 when Westgate Street was demolished. Got a feeling that it carried an all metal Merryweather 50ft Escape with which we rescued a portly lady from a second floor roof while the house was 'going well' below her! Even in 1972 this machine was showing her age in both bodywork and mechanics & one had to treat her gently. Looks great here though.

Taff - Not surprising, considering she was 22 at the time, and Cadiff's pumps were pretty busy because for a city of its size it did not have a large fleet of appliances!

We could muster just 5 pumps from 3 stations before the old Glamorgan station Whitchurch was amalgamated into Cardiff City (excluding 2 Land Rover pumps, 1 at each sub-station). Even had a trailer pump still on the go at one time!).
