In my opinion the Mack B was the most esthetically perfect truck ever made. Beautifully proportioned -- everything is the right size and shape, in the right place. That FDNY truck is from the 1950s and still as pretty as ever. The most all-round beautiful fire truck I've ever seen was a B-20 with a 100-foot Magirus rear-mount aerial ladder. That was in Montreal, in 1969.

Not only a very attractive truck, but a very popular, effective and hardworking one. Not to mention their legendary durability - when I moved to Long Island in 1983, many of our volunteer departments were still using B series - some of them thirty or more years old!
