In 1857 this hand drawn hose reel was part of the Astoria Hose company no.8 (Tiger 8), Long Island City Fire dept. It was built by Pine and Hartshorn New York NY.
The Long Island City Fire dept was organised in 1870 as a volunteer dept, and became a paid dept in 1987. In 1898 Long Island merged with New York city and from than part of the FDNY.
