Geoff, are the bells on the first Dennis gold in appearance? Are you able to enlighten me, thanks. Pavel

Pavel, they are in fact brass, whether or not they were chrome like the other machines and the chrome has worn off, I do not know. I hope this answers your question. cheers Geoff.

I lived in Essex in the late 1960s, and the fleet was solid Dennis with two exceptions. The TLs, like this example, were AEC Merryweathers. Even more unusual, they also had two Leyland Firemaster ET-Ps, with a two door cab, inward-facing crew seats over the front wheelarches, a center aisle body and a front-mounted 900 IGPM pump. These and the AECs were diesels, but the Dennises at the time were all Rools-Royce petrol- engined appliances. I was never quite sure why Essex did not buy Dennis TLs and ETs - plenty of other brigades did!

I saw one of the Firemasters in action, but I have never seen any photos of them, nor do I know what happened to them. Are they mentioned at the Fire Museum?
