Czechoslovakia Skoda water tender

My brother took these photos for me on a visit to the old country of Czechoslovakia in about 1990/91. He can't remember where it was other than he was staying in Prague so it is in that vicinity. This machine I believe to be a Skoda built water tender. My brother, Michael Routledge, has given me his permission to post this photo.

actually these vehicles are pretty old and AFAIK they are not used anymore by professional fire departments. However - many of them are used by volunteer firemen in both czech republic and slovakia. The forward sprinkler may be used for street cleaning, but I think that its primary role was to fight bushfires or burning grass etc...

Sparge pipes....Northumberland used to have them on their water tenders years ago !

Several brigades in Ireland have similar bars fitted to water tankers. They are very efficient for dealing with oil/diesel spills on roads, especially if it is possible to add a detergent to the water spray.

Commer QX/Whitson WrT AJC 10 and Commer QX/Plaxton WrT BJC 450 in Caernarfonshire Fire & Ambulance Service also had sparge pipes fitted to them.
