In my opinion, one of the least pretty appliances to enter service in NZ. This 1957 SLZG model is fitted with a Magirus ladder and only ever served the city of Invercargill. It is now preserved in the Ferrymead Museum in Christchurch.

This type of bulbous styling was unfortunately quite popular in the US in the 1950s and crossed the Atlantic to the UK (where this chassis was built) courtesy of General Motors, who owned Bedford. The later TK chassis was a bit more modern and toned down, and made for some quite attractive appliances.

But I doubt the citizens of Invercargill cared very much! I saw an identical TL in action in Margate (UK) in 1963, and the lady whose house was on fire seemed very happy that it was there...

This was, incidentally, the ladder used for the Dinky Supertoys model TL of the 1950s.
