Chris: Not many UK fire stations have two aerials, especially in towns the size of Gateshead, which has a population of only around 120, 000 people. I think a three pump station with a single aerial would be a much more common assignment...

There were never, ever two TLs assigned to Gateshead. One of them is being stored there. It was not operational.
The allocation on the station on opening was three pumps, TL and E/St

I visited in 1968 when indeed that was the line up, but of course things change, and the TLs in this photo looked to be the same age.

A few towns' fire stations doubled up on TLs at least for a period of time, including York, Grimsby and Cardiff, so I wondered if Gateshead had done the same - especially as for quite a while Newcastle had only one...
