Fire Engines Photos

They only produced 3 or 4 of the Marlin Fire and Rescue vehicles, they had about a 1300 hp v12 Detroit engine, although I think the Hong Kong airport one had a v16 engine fitted, they were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The Boughton Barracuda was the main fire truck built at the Winkleigh Devon factory, sadley no longer building fire trucks but still building waste handling vehicles.

I was the test driver of the above for R/B starting off at Bournemouth for x country, brake testing, gradient (all whilst loaded). Theto Chertsey for tilt test..Then upto Doncaster for electrical fittings...awesome machine! Manchester Fire Guys made a Video of the occasion. (Y)

I worked at the Pemberton site in Wigan formally (Northern Counties) as a welder and worked on two Marlin types plus a smaller rescue vehicle in the early 90s and the last vehicle we did were the v16 for Hong-Kong.

"In the late 80's, Fire Trucks designed a new larger major foam tender with input form Manchester airport and this was the Marlin. The Marlin was a futuristic looking modular design (remember this was the 80's) that would allow customers to have the truck tailored to there requirement in a way that was never possible before. The first truck was built in 1989, using a custom variant of the Reynolds Boughton Griffin Chassis and a top hamper designed by Fire Trucks but built by Northern Counties in Wigan. Northern Counties were a long established coachbuilder who at the time were partly owned by Greater Manchester Transport - who also part owned Manchester airport."
