Ian, seeing this photo has made my day, This is a Short wheel base 1971 Land Rover Hose Reel tender with engineering conversion and coachwork work conversion by Carmichaels & Sons of Worcester. The design of this appliance goes back to the year 1963 when The City of Coventry Fire Brigade operated an identical appliance and it was this that the specification was based on, one will note the very low gantries overhead the truckcab roof the original intention of this was so it could be operated within multi-storey car parks within the city. I understand this appliance ended up in "Devon as a hydrant testing appliance for whole time crews and was repainted a rather drab red with the "Devon" motif on the offside and nearside cab doors. Please does anyone know of the existence of this vehicle in civvy street I am sure being a four by four it will still be around today in some form or another. I was out one day in Arundel West Sussex cycling and in the car park was one of West Sussex County Fire Brigade Land Rovers (240 EBP) of 1961 vintage it had been converted to a camper-caravanette vehicle very professionally done still in grey and county cream livery over to you.
I can remember this appliance used at Crediton (Devon) in the 80's for hydrant testing. My dad was a fireman there, and as a boy I spent alot of time there. It's a Light FWD pump (L4P) Ex- Exeter.
