These light vans are used by most French full-time fire stations for a wide variety of general service alarms, nuisance calls and non-urgent incidents.

They can carry a variety equipment (not necessarily including ladders, like this unit) and are often loaded up just before responding with whatever items are thought likely to be useful at the call. They are staffed by anything from one to three firefighters, depending on the nature of the incident.

In some SDIS, these VTUs attend anything up to half of all calls, leaving the larger trucks and their crews available for more important incidents...
