This is the BSPP version of the Advanced Life Support Ambulance. AR literally translates as an ambulance that "brings the dead back to life", which seems a bit of an exaggeration!
These coach built ambulances on Iveco chassis cabs are a bit bigger than their BLS ambulances (VSAV), which are slightly modified Renault vans. This means they have additional room and equipment to treat patients with more serious medical problems and/or injuries in transit.
They are dispatched only in a limited number of circumstances, when the condition of the patient is reportedly very serious, and represent less than 10% of the fleet.
