This was a spare pump when I joined Humberside in 1976 - its in the yard at Scunthorpe - we used it for our 'months pre training'before we were sent to Derby training school

Sorry but after a second look this is in the yard at the old Immingham Fire Station on Manby Road - it has many similarities in the outbuildings to Scunthorpe as they were both former Lindsey County stations built in the early 1960's

This was originally based at Cleethorpes alongside a Bedford/HCB Angus PE. When Cleethorpes was downgraded from WT/Rt to retained the PE was moved over to Cromwell Road in Grimsby. After about a month both machines were exchanged and MFU 881F became the Wrt at Cromwell Road and the PE returned to Cleethorpes. This machine remained at Cromwell Road until 1979 when it was replaced by KRH 585V, a Dennis RS. It then went onto become a C Division spare. I cannot recall seeing this after 1983, but that is not to say it didn't go elsewhere in Humberside.

God I'm getting old !!! It was MFU 880F we trained on in those dim and distant days not 881 as I posted earlier !

I've driven this quite a few times! I may be wrong but I believe this appliance was the ill fated one which had an accident en route to an emergency (before I enrolled). The crew where donning B.A. and one of them had his back to the door when it opened unintentionally causing him to be thrown from the appliance. His injuries led him to be medically discharged.
