1960 Renault Galion T2 at Colmar

COLMAR FIRE STATION (HAUT RHIN 68) FRANCE
Escape Ladder 18 meters Gugumus & Charton on Renault Galion T2.
Served the Colmar fire station from 1960 to 2004.
Now still based in the fire station and was acquired by the city’s FS association.
These types of engines can be seen in French cities with very old medieval or roman city centers where TTL can’t operate.
Even though the good old T2 Renaults have now retired they where all replaced by new models.

44 years in front line service - and it was actually also called out more recently to a major fire in the city center!

I just love talking about the Gugumus ladders - it sounds so completely alien...

Some are still in use - on new transporters, of course, but the Riffaud compact four section 18 meter turntable ladder and 15 meter lightweight extension ladders on pumpers have combined to make these once very common ladders a rare sight nowadays.
