This design was first developed and sold by OM in Italy, which was then bought out by FIAT. Subsequently they were marketed by IVECO after FIAT joined up with Unic and Magirus.

The chassis was available in 6.0, 7.5 and 9.0 tonne versions, and a small number were used as fire trucks with pumps, bodies, equipment (and badges) by Magirus. These were mostly LF8 models for German volunteer fire companies, with 800 LPM pumps and nine man cabs, like this example.

Some of them in stations with larger rural response areas also carried an 800 LPM portable pump (LF8TS) to access open water sources.
