With a population of 70, 000, Aschaffenburg operates one full time and seven volunteer fire stations. They operate ten pumpers.
This LF8 was a typical volunteer pumper at the time in Germany, with a front mounted 800 LPM pump, a nine person crew cab and a fairly comprehensive schedule of hoses, ladders and other equipment. Because they are often not very busy, many are still in service...
They did not have a water tank, but were often accompanied by a water tender or tanker. (Aschaffenburg operated three.)
Some, designated LF8(TS) carried a second 800 LPM portable pump in the rear locker, to access open water sources at rural fires where hydrant access was compromised.
When replaced, the DIN specification called for a 1000 LPM pump and a water tank of at least 600 liters, the so-called LF10/6. A nine person cab continued to be specified, but this town ordered two with six person cabs.
