Where will this be based?

From what I gather they have seven of these in total.

I can only guess that these will replace the Leyland Daf compact pumps and some of the older Volvos in service.

Thats right, the likes of Patterdale, Bootle, Ambleside, Coniston should be getting one.

Keswick is getting one. Ideal as 2nd pump. Unfortunately Keswick is now a one pump station! These only ride 5 rather than 6.

What's happened to Keswick's little Iveco?

I think that was 2nd pump, it has been replaced by a Landrover with fogging equipment as a wildfire unit.

Haven't Ambleside and Coniston only recently got new Volvo pumps?

We have just taken delivery of 1 at sedbergh, Very tight in crew cab, 4 wheel drive will be a bonus though.

The Iveco is in use with the fire cadets at workington.

Does anyone know how these Varios compare to full size water tenders when it comes to pump capacity, water tank, ladder equipment and other data? They are quite often used in various European brigades but are usually limited to a 2000 LPM pump and a 1000 liter tank. Varios are also popular as First Response or Minor Alarm units, usually without a crew cab.

cracking little machines we have one at ambleside and the cafs has proved its worth at a number of multi pump jobs even though they are known as "bread vans" 4x4 has also been invaluable during winter conditions as neighbouring stations will verify.

Rob,
I don't think there's anything significantly larger than 1000l tank and 1500-2000 lpm pumps in a Vario. With a payload of approx. 4 tons there's not much reserve. Crew cabs are sometimes extra cabs instead of the original ones. Saves some weight.
