The classic Metz chain operated mechanical ladder must have been one of the last ones supplied, if it was new in 1962, because Metz were already building hydraulic ladders by the beginning of the 1960s - unless of course this was an older ladder transferred onto a new DAF chassis in 62. 27 meters was a standard size in Germany in the late 1930s, so might this be the background story?
