Bedford TK Water Tender BEK 999C
Seen at the North West Museum of Transport, St Helens on 06/03/2011 Bedford TK Water Tender new to Wigan Fire Brigade in 1965 The appliance carries the name 'RILEY' on a plate fixed to the radiator grill, the machine is named after Alderman (senior councillor) Riley who was Chairman of the Watch Committee in 1965

This appliance has always from new been registered BEK 999C

I have emailed the person who gave you that information Andy and his reply
"My notes show it as having been reregistered from AJP999C. However that doesn't mean that it ever carried these plates.
It is quite possible that the Wigan Bedford had AJP reserved and then was changed, either because someone else wanted the registration or because somebody at the licensing office thought that it was too far out of sequence when it arrived (or had forgotten that a registration had been reserved."
Sounds like a logical explanation to me !

I like the idea of clear plastic covers over the open lockers. Visitors get to see all the kit without the museum staff having to dust everything all the time!
I must have visited two dozen or more historic fire truck displays in many places, but this is the first time I've seen this anywhere...

My Dad who passed away last week served at Wigan in the 70's, love to think that he drove this at some point. RIP Watky

When Leading Fireman Ellison took delivery from Hampshire Car Bodies, Southampton, the registration plate was BEK 999C
