1945 Dodge - Van Pelt Fire Truck

This pretty truck is on display a the Hearst Castle at San Simeon CA. The initials on the side WRH presumably are those of William Randolph Hearst, media mogul who once used to own the castle until it was donated to the State of California many years ago. Would welcome other comments re the history of this truck and whether it was ever in active service? I was in a hurry to catch the castle tour and could not check the history details.
